Gas Transmission Operations
|
 |
Background
The Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) transmission system stretches some 1,163 kilometres (km) across the peninsula. Under the PGU Looping project additional 496 km of gas pipelines are laid parallel to the existing PGU main trunkline to further enhance the security and reliability of gas supply to customers. In supporting the PGU transmission system operations PGB has created a division namely Transmission Operation (TOD). |

Operations
TOD is responsible for all activities relating to gas transmission through the 7 Regional operations offices located at Segamat, Kuantan, Shah Alam, Pasir Gudang, Seremban, Gurun and Sitiawan. In Miri, Sarawak, PGB owns and operates two gas distribution systems (GDS) at Miri and Bintulu. The regional offices initiatives are to monitor the safety, pipe corrosion and defects, reliability and efficient delivery of products via the pipelines under their regional area. The Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) to closely monitor pipeline integrity and to improve cost efficiency the intelligent pigging programme has been implemented. While in monitoring the transmission system gas pressure or intrusion the Supervisory Control and Data acquisition (SCADA) has been implemented.
TOD maintained its uninterrupted availability of transmission and network services to provide reliable and cost efficient delivery of gas to its customers by keeping to very high maintenance standards for its pipelines. Regular pipeline "intelligent pigging" operations were carried out to detect any pipeline anomaly such as corrosion and pipe defects.
A significant aspect of the transmission operations involved the Safety Awareness Programme for the public and local authorities located within the vicinity of the pipeline route. This programme is being held regularly with the purpose of providing information on the safety aspects of gas transmission operations as well as status update on the on-going project. |
